ARE YOU NEW TO LACROSSE?

New Parent FAQ

Q: When do practices start?
A: Late January or early February. Practices are held at Central Park (location on facilities tab) 3 nights a week.  Practice days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 6-8 PM. Practice days or length may be adjusted throughout the season at the coach's discretion.
Q: When do games start?
A: The SCLA hosts a jamboree for all teams the last weekend in February. Please plan on keeping this weekend open, as we won't know your specific team's schedule until closer to that date. The season will run through the beginning of May.
Q: Where are games held?
A: Most games are in Moorpark, however we are working to get more home games here in Santa Clarita as the SCV Blackhawks grow!
Q: How do I register?
A: Click on the registration link on our home page.

Q: What is included with my registration?
A: All game/field fees and uniform. Uniform includes a helmet decal, game jersey, shooter shirt, shorts and socks.
Q: What equipment do I need to buy? (Link Below)
A: This varies between boys/girls.

Boys will need a lacrosse stick, helmet, football or lacrosse cleats, shoulder & elbow pads, gloves, a protective cup and a mouth guard.

Girls will need protective eye wear or helmet, mouth guard and cleats. Please see our equipment page for more info.
Q: Where can I buy equipment?
A: Dick's Sporting Goods and Lacrosse Monkey (in Northridge) both have the above mentioned equipment. We also encourage you to look for lightly used equipment such as sticks, helmets and pads via Facebook, Craigslist or other used sporting goods resources.

Q: How do I purchase a Blackhawks helmet?
A: We will have these available for purchase please contact our uniform director through the website.  Your son is not required to have a Blackhawks helmet, however the Cascade-R helmets we have custom designed will last through high school age and you will not need to purchase another one.
Q: Will my child have to try out for a team?
a: Every child has a spot in our stripes organization! If your child would like to try out for a stars team, these tryouts will be held before the start of the season.
Q: What are Stars and Stripes teams?
A: Stripes teams are ideal for newer or novice level players. Star teams will compete against more experienced teams from other organizations.
Q: How can I get more involved with the league?
A: The SCVYLA operates solely with volunteers! All parents are welcome to attend our monthly board meetings (see home page for date/location details).

We are on a team, now what?

Once you have been placed on a team, please fill out the following player contract and email to your coach or manager.

Did you hear about the sport from a friend or neighbor and want to find out more?

First, you're in the right spot.  We offer programs for boys and girls at the youth level as well as high school aged players.

If you have a child that is interested in lacrosse regardless of age, youth or high school, have them check out one of our free intro clinics. Those will be posted to the right when available. Can't find what you are looking for? Just email us and we'll be happy to chat with you.

Lacrosse is the fastest growing youth sport in the country right now. Don't worry if your kid has never played, as most kids here haven't so your child is not at a disadvantage.  A lot of kids have only picked up a stick in the last year to two, and every year we add more new kids to the program.  Here are links to PDF's of girls and boys youth lacrosse books from US Lacrosse. This is a great resource for parents and players that would like to learn the game.
